MNA - One Girl

Matthew Nino Azcuy, known to the music world as MNA, is a music artist from Olney, Maryland. With a variety of influences across Rock and Rap, MNA brings a unique perspective to the music that he creates, truly providing something interesting with each fresh release. Today we are excited to share our thoughts on MNA’s five song EP from 2021, One Girl!

One Girl starts off with “Toxic Girl” and from the opening seconds of the intro, you are sure to be sucked in. This track features a nostalgic and emotive soundscape that really brings the message from the lyrics to life in a way that leaves an impact. “Through the City” follows and I love how this track starts out with shout outs to MNA’s producer (nemo), his family and God. Some melodic and quick-hitting flow brings this song to life as MNA walks us through his rise to-be. The EP’s title track, “One Girl”, is up third; this one is a truly strong track with both noteworthy vocals - especially its hook - and an exceptional backing instrumental. Of all of the songs on the EP, this is the one that I have come back to the most since initially listening.

The fourth song from One Girl is “Shadows of My Mind” which feels primed for the radio. Excellent percussion highlights the instrumental while extremely catchy vocals show some of MNA’s Rock influences peaking through. If I had to pick a promotional single for this EP, it would definitely be this song; its rock-infused energy and overall brilliant flow make this one special. “Summer Girl” closes out the EP and it feels like the perfect way to end this EP. This track has some more Rock influences shining through and it is extremely catchy. Despite the line “summer never fades”, I feel like this song really captures the ever-fleeting moment that summer represents.

I feel like One Girl is an excellent release, featuring a collection of balanced songs that each offer a high-quality listening experience. Well-crafted instrumentals pave the way for MNA’s excellent rap flow to shine through in each song and his lyrics are meaningful and presented well. If you are fans of MGK’s newer work, I feel like this EP will hit that same spot for you, though the music within One Girl feels like it comes from a more authentic place - I really get the feeling MNA is trying to create more of the music he himself loves to share with the world. You can keep up with MNA through Instagram and find music on Spotify and SoundCloud. We have One Girl embedded below - take a listen!
