An Introduction to Blow_Flyy
Blow_Flyy is a new age music artist who is currently based out of Toronto, Canada. Something that sets this artist apart from others in the rap/hip-hop game is that his bars do not rhyme; this is a revolutionary approach to this kind of music that few artists would be bold enough to attempt. Today we are excited to share our thoughts on a few of Flyy’s songs spanning different several eras of his career!
The first song we listened to is “Bleed 4 You” which serves as a great introduction to this artist’s skills. A splendidly soulful display, this song is richly textured across both the vocals and instrumental elements featured within. From listening to this song you will get a great feel for what Blow_Flyy’s music is all about while simultaneously being able to vibe along with an emotive track.
Next up from Blow_Flyy is “All That She Wants” from Born to Dream. From the outset, this track is brimming with melody, both in the exceptionally hooky chorus and through Flyy’s awesome rap bars. What I enjoy the most about this song is that even though this artist strays away from convention with his lyrical style, he still presents his music in a melodic fashion that is incredibly easy to enjoy as a complete package in terms of both lyrical meaning and presentation.
The third track we listened to is “For the Love” which is also from Born to Dream and is definitely a passion piece. Through this song, Blow_Flyy walks us through his love of music, trying to grow his career and how his focus on the music has an effect on his personal relationships. Although “For the Love” is a short song, it says a lot in its brief runtime and this song especially serves as a meaningful example of this artist’s lyrical storytelling technique.
Another song from Born to Dream, “To The Starz”, was the next song we listened to and this one is quite special. Taking the role of an inspirational speaker, Blow_Flyy speaks to following his own dreams and encourages us to do the same. Again, this artist’s signature storytelling lyrical approach is on display and this song hits extremely hard in all the right ways; Flyy is emotive and inspirational and the way that the vocals and backing track pair in this song is absolutely perfect.
Yet another track from Born to Dream is up next, this one titled “We Both Dreamers” and it feels like a mission statement from that record. Of all of Blow_Flyy’s songs we listened to, this one has my favorite instrumental backing track - from the start you will find yourself hooked in and engaged. The rap flow featured in this song is also incredibly strong, matching the melodic hook provided by the instrumental, really making this one strong from top to bottom.
The final song from Blow_Flyy we listened to was “That’s My Girl” which comes from his 2011 release It’s Like I Got a Set of Wings. A throwback of sorts, this song shows us an earlier stage in this artist’s career and lets us compare his newer material with his older songs. Still a very strong song, “That’s My Girl” is sensual and is an incredibly easy song to vibe along with.
I have an immense respect and appreciation for Blow_Flyy’s unconventional decision to not rhyme in his music; what makes this kind of approach so special is how uncompromising the lyrical content can become when not constricted to a certain rhyme scheme and we see Flyy execute this approach perfectly in his music. I truly cannot say enough about how the music you will find from this artist is different from anything else you will find out there in terms of rap and hip/hop and you will definitely want to dig deeper into his catalog of music after checking out what we’ve shared in this article.
