Aylum (often stylized with a lowercase ‘a’ as aylum) is a music producer based in San Francisco, California. aylum has spent more than a decade honing their sound and is now ready to release their music into the world. Today we are excited to share our thoughts on aylum’s new three-song EP, us!
us begins with “worlds”, which is a beautiful and ethereal song. Uplifting in nature, the song begins with some spoken-word vocals before progressing into an out-of-body experience as the instrumental flourishes. I really enjoy the nature-inspired samples, including a bird calling, utilized in this song. “stars” is the middle song from the EP and it would be my first choice for a promotional single from this album. I feel this way because both the vocals and instrumental are extremely catchy and the song as a whole is invigorating. It really is one of those special songs. These first two songs featured the talented KEZVIA on vocals and I must say, aylum chose the perfect artist to feature on these tracks.
The seven minute and fourteen second “moons” closes out us on a high note. Profound in its nature, this pure instrumental piece is an absolute gem; with a soundscape that builds and stretches as the song moves forward, I found this one particularly easy to get lost in. I found myself deeply impressed by the melodies and layering used in this song and it truly is an outstanding way to end the EP.
aylum and us are already making waves with both “moons” and “stars” clocking in over 30,000 plays on Spotify as of writing - truly a remarkable feat.
