Darrell Kelley - Insane In The Ukraine

Darrell Kelley is a singer songwriter and social activist from Boston, Massachusetts. A talented R&B artist, Kelley often takes on heavy topics within his music. We have previously checked out Kelley’s song, “Ahmaud”, a stirring tribute to Ahmaud Arbery and today we are back to share our thoughts on Kelley’s latest work, “Insane In The Ukraine”.

“Insane In The Ukraine” harks upon Cypress Hill’s hit song “Insane In The Membrane” and serves as a powerful antiwar message, speaking out against Russia’s campaign against Ukraine. Throughout this song, Darrell Kelley’s vocal performance is stirring, sharing words that many of us have felt in one way or another these last several weeks. In addition to Kelley’s impassioned vocal performance, this track also samples a snippet from a recent speech from President Biden - the line “who in the Lord’s name?”, a quote that really rounds out the song’s meaning.

Darrell Kelley has shown us that he is a powerful contemporary voice who is unafraid to tackle heavy, important topics. You can keep up with Darrell Kelley through his Instagram and website and we have “Insane In The Ukraine” embedded below via YouTube and you can also catch the track on Spotify!
