La Susi - La Rosa Cautiva

Encarnacion Amador Santiago, better known by her artist name La Susi was an award winning singer and dancer. Music runs in La Susi’s family’s blood as both her father Jose Maria Amador and brother Joaquin Amador are well-known guitarists, while La Susi herself starred in the “Golden Age of Flamenco”. Today we take a listen to the final song La Susi recorded before she passed away in October of 2020, “La Rosa Cautiva”, from label Wake Up! Music.

“La Rosa Cautiva” is a Spanish language song that is very memorable. The track is absolutely stirring from start to finish as La Susi captivates with her powerful voice. Pedro Cortes’ guitar work on the song is stunning as well, serving to set and maintain the track’s tone throughout its duration; Diego Amador also features on piano and other instruments and his contribution to the track is also exceptional. La Susi’s emotional vocal delivery and the way in which it perfectly blends with the music shows us why she was a well-known Flamenco performer and, though this is the final chapter in her story, she will not be forgotten.

Overall, I believe that “La Rosa Cautiva” is a stirring final track from La Susi that further cements her legacy as a legendary Flamenco artist. In addition to being La Susi’s final track, “La Rosa Cautiva” is also the first single from a soon to be released film documentary soundtrack album titled “Flamenco: Passion in Danger”.
