Lourdes Pita - Lamento Cubano
Lourdes Pita is an internationally syndicated Spanish and English singer/songwriter and recording artist. Specializing in Folk Rock, Pita is a supremely talented artist with many excellent releases. Today we are excited to share our thoughts on Lourdes Pita’s single, “Lamento Cubano”!
“Lamento Cubano” is a powerful reimagining of a classic song originally by Eliseo Grenet; it is a song which mourns for the country of Cuba and the land that it used to be, sang from the perspective of a native of that country. Although Grenet died before Castro gained power in Cuba, this song still holds a relevance today that has made its words age like a fine wine and I feel like Lourdes Pita is singing these timeless words for a different, modern generation and her reimagining of this song is incredibly beautiful and meaningful.
I really enjoy Lourdes Pita’s take on “Lamento Cubano” - of all of the versions I listened to while researching for this article, it was certainly my favorite rendition - and I think you all will get a lot out of listening to this song.
