Lyand - Groovin

Lyand is an EDM producer and DJ who is based in Brooklyn, New York. Lyand enjoys finding new music so his list of inspirations is ever-growing, bringing interesting life into the music he creates. Additionally, Lyand is no stranger to spending hours in the studio, spending his time developing new sounds. Today we are excited to share our review of Lyand’s new three-track EP, Groovin!

Groovin kicks off with the original version of the title track, “Groovin”. This four minute and forty-six second track features deep and dark-textured synths that create a very atmospheric soundscape that carries on throughout the track’s duration. The bass in this song really drives it forward, pairing well with the percussion elements to set up an extremely groovy experience, accentuated by the often repeated word, “groovin’”. This version of “Groovin” feels like the kind of song that I would listen to before a long study or writing session, something pleasantly rhythmic to get me “in the zone”, and that is something I greatly appreciate about this track.

The second track we listened to from the EP is the remix of “Groovin”, which features the talents of Sven Jaeger and Fabian Weitz. Featuring a bit brighter of an atmosphere and with the bassline more prevalent, this version of “Groovin” is a very different - and very inspired - experience. The synth sound set up in this version of the song reminds me in some ways of a videogame soundtrack (with certain elements reminding me of the Bomberman Hero soundtrack - one of my favorite videogame soundtracks ever) and that is just one of many ways that sets this inspired remix of the original up as a special song.

Finally, the third track from Groovin is “NY to Berlin”. This track features a kind of world faring sound to it, featuring a certain eclectic nature to it that makes it stand out from the two versions of “Groovin” that make up the rest of this EP. I really enjoyed the production choice of utilizing clapping as part of this track’s percussion performance; something about this choice fits perfectly to me, despite being relatively common across different forms of EDM, and I feel as though I needed to make mention of how perfectly it fits here. “NY to Berlin” is a complete track that fits well on the EP, with its easy to groove to nature.

Overall, Lyand’s skillset is on full display on Groovin which is and aptly titled and an enjoyable overall experience. Lyand is an artist that I believe will rise and I am sure you will all enjoy taking a listen to Groovin!
