Saints Of The Holler - Devil’s Garden
Saints Of The Holler is a West-Virginia based band consisting of vocalist Amy Honce, drummer Bob Workman, songwriter, guitarist, bassist and mandolinist Brian Cottrill and organist and pianists Davin Seamon and Terry Hotsinpiller. Today we are excited to share our thoughts on Saints Of The Holler’s debut EP, Devil’s Garden!
Devil’s Garden begins with its title track, “Devil’s Garden” and this is a deeply gripping opening track. This song describes the pain and loss surrounding opioid addiction - something that each of the band’s members have had family or friends go through - and Amy Honce’s vocals bring this meaning to life in a sobering, memorable way. Second is “So Alive” which is quite upbeat and very catchy. You can feel the love brimming from this song and its catchiness gives it plenty of radio/streaming potential as a single and it stands as my personal favorite from the EP.
“Better Than Living This Way” is the third track from Devil’s Garden and also the longest in length at four minutes and twenty seconds. This song has a deeply genuine feel to it that also gives it a timeless kind of feeling; the kind of feeling left by some of the best hits by artists like Billy Joel and Bob Dylan. This one really holds up against some of the greats in a big way! Closing out the EP is “Change”. This track has what I would consider to be a kind of angry feel to it that provides some undeniably passionate emotions. I found these emotions to be quite fitting as the lyrics are politically charged - a quite literal call for “change”.
All in all, Devil’s Garden is an emotive, genuine and just purely awesome debut EP from Saints Of The Holler. From the opening moments of “Devil’s Garden” through the closing seconds of the politically charged “Change”, we are taken on a special musical journey and I assure you, you will want to listen to this EP more than just once. You can keep up with Saints of the Holler and find their music through Bandcamp, Apple Music as well as Brian Cottrill’s Facebook, Instagram and website. We have Devil’s Garden embedded below!
