Second Hand Mojo - Open Up Your Mind
Second Hand Mojo is Midwest Rock band with a “Southern Fried Flare” that they incorporate into their music; the band is based out of Canton/Detroit as well as surrounding communities. The band has had some distinctive successes, providing music for the soundtracks for “Driven to Ride” and the documentary “Klocked: Women of Horsepower”. Today we dig into an advance look at their upcoming single, “Open Up Your Mind” which is due for release on July 31, 2020.
“Open Up Your Mind” opens up with piano and intentionally subdued electric guitar; once the vocals kick in it becomes clear that this song is going to rock pretty hard and the guitar picks up once the other instruments become more prominent. The singing and vocal melody are both very reminiscent of the golden sounds of 70’s rock while the lyrics have a more modern approach, making this song feel like an update to the tracks of old. Further driving home the more classic rock approach that Second Hand Mojo take with this song is when the lead guitar takes over at the end of the track, playing out something of a call and response tactic that also accents the vocals.
“Open Up Your Mind” is an outstanding song that makes me yearn for the days when rock on the radio was more simple yet still expertly crafted; this outstanding track from Second Hand Mojo definitely fits that mold and would go well on a classic rock playlist.
