SlowMo - Westside
SlowMo is a singer, songwriter and actor based in Montreal. Growing up, SlowMo was introduced to music through his church and soon thereafter began taking singing lessons while learning multiple instruments. In regards to the music he is currently making, SlowMo does an excellent job of incorporating Montreal’s underground culture into his sound which is a mix of R&B, Pop and Trap. Today we take a listen to SlowMo’s hot track, “Westside”.
“Westside” is a track that has excellent interplay between the instrumental track and vocal performance. Instrumentally, the track feels breezy and pleasant, really delivering a smooth experience that compliments the lyrics and SlowMo’s vocals nicely. Lyrically, SlowMo guides us through a complicated but passionate relationship with a woman; this approach comes off as both genuine and relatable. There is a key change at the 2:03 mark that punctuates the closing moments of the song brilliantly, providing a bit of a change-up that helps that final chorus hit even harder while leaving the track with a memorable closing note.
Overall, “Westside” is an enjoyable introduction to SlowMo and his unique style. A highlight of this track is the glimpse into SlowMo’s multilingual skills that he often includes in his music; as an English, French and Spanish speaker, SlowMo can really keep things fresh by switching languages mid-song.
