SOUTHDOGROCK - Great Big Love & More!
SOUTHDOGROCK is a music project and the brainchild of vocalist, lyricist, saxophonist and keyboardist Florian Döppert and his partner, producer Frank Schultz. Based in Southern Germany, close to the French and Swiss border, this project won seven awards at the 2021 39. German Rock & Pop Awards and continues to release great music. We have previously listened to several of SOUTHDOGROCK’s tracks and today we are back to highlight “Great Big Love” as well as a few other newer tracks from SOUTHDOGROCK!
“Great Big Love” is remarkably upbeat and truly enjoyable, both from a sonic and thematic level. The instrumental portion of the track is very funky thanks to a strong performance by both the bass and drums in the song; the instrumental as a whole is very tight and sets the foundation for the passion-filled vocal performance to shine. SOUTHDOGROCK dedicates this song to everyone who has their own “great big love”, as well as those who are still searching or searching again; everyone’s “great big love” is different, though as SOUTHDOGROCK says, “when it comes, you know”. Next, we listened to “Rote Rose” which is yet another exceptional song from SOUTHDOGROCK. Indeed, this is the kind of quality listening experience that we have come to expect from this music project. I feel like you get a real sense for the quality that makes up the songs SOUTHDOGROCK releases through this song; it serves as a great, meaningful example of what this sound is capable of. I cannot say enough about the complex vibes this song gives off and how much I enjoyed listening to it. You can listen below:
Lastly, we just wanted to mention how we still dig “Ride With Me” which we wrote about in our previous article about SOUTHDOGROCK. The song’s blending of multiple eras of Rock and Pop has had a lasting impact with me and still remains a personal favorite from this group. Listen below:
