The Front Bottoms - Everyone Blooms

“Everyone Bloom”s is the new single released by New Jersey’s The Front Bottoms. I’ve been a fan of the Front Bottoms since Talon of the Hawk, but I really found myself enjoying their early work, while also appreciating their sound maturing over the years. I thought Back on Top was a great example of how a band can evolve from their original sound because it was a clear example of how they intended to bring their music to more adult themes, less talk about highschool more talk about day jobs. My split with the hardcore fanbase begin when I didn’t take much of a liking to Going Grey, but I still found myself enjoying a few songs like Vacation Town and Grand Finale. Even so, I have a soft spot for the band after all this time and still follow their music to see what they’re up to. With that introduction out of the way, on to the review.

“Everyone Blooms” follows “Camouflage” as the singles preparing us for the new album and I would say it definitely outshines camouflage. The songs are structured very similarly, featuring these segments of ranting in them that I found works a lot better in Everyone Blooms, as the rant in camouflage seemed forced and very similar to the likes of Hobo Johnson.

“And I know that no news

No news is good news

But that always felt backwards

And I still haven't heard from you”

These rants work well with a “less is more” attitude, when an album contains more than one or two instances of this it makes the novelty of them become stale and less special.

I like this song, it’s very ballad-like, and in a weird way sonically reminds me of something Queen would make. It’s an uplifting tune with lyrics that match it (most of the time.) In a world where a lot of bands from this genre and era are trying to reinvent their sound or evolve The Front Bottoms is better at this than some. While I still hold the self-titled album near and dear to my heart, I don’t want a world where TFB releases something that mimics that sound almost a decade later. I’m welcoming this change of sound and I’m pretty stoked to see what’s left to come.
