Almost Citizen - Closer Than You Think
Almost Citizen is a music project from Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Abhi Ananda. A rebirth of sorts of Ananda’s previous band, HYDN, this iteration is set to draw from material that has been crafted over the previous three years. Today we are excited to share our thoughts on Almost Citizen’s single, “Closer Than You Think”!
“Closer Than You Think” is a guitar-driven, almost entirely instrumental piece that I found to be quite stirring. The standout guitar work is absolutely on-point and provides most of the emotional heavy lifting for the song by providing rich and senses-pleasing melodies; vocal “ah-ahhs” toward the end of the piece provide a deep dynamic that adds something warm and fresh to the melodic spectrum as well. I feel like “Closer Than You Think” is an apt title for this song as it makes you feel as if you are on the brink of something - a breakthrough, a well-deserved moment of peace, experiencing miracle - all of these things bubbled in my mind and felt possible while I listened.
