An Introduction to Tom Gorsich

Tom Gorsich is a worldwide music collaborator, producer and musician. An expert collaborator, Gorsich typically pairs his talents with other skilled artists to write top quality music that showcases the abilities of everyone involved. Today we are going to take a look at five of Tom Gorsich’s best songs that he has written with various talented artists.

The first song we listened to was "Them Scars” by Cosmic Orphans. This track comes off as very personable as the lyrics speak about the way in which love “cuts” and “scars” us. The vocal melody is memorable and helps to really sell the message this song presents and the somber instrumentation matches the heavy emotions presented by the lyrics. An interesting note about this song is that it, along with its video, won at the London Music Video Festival in 2020 - and through watching the video you can see why as the song’s vibe matches that of the video perfectly. Second is “Far Away”, featuring Debbiah. A spirited track with great sonic vibrancy, “Far Away” features Debbiah taking us through her feelings of longing to be somewhere else and her confidence that she will find her way. These relatable lyrics are punctuated by the backing track that really serves as a hand to guide the vocals along while capturing the energy of the vocals. I especially enjoyed the production and arrangement on this track and it reminds me of some of the best of 90’s pop music, from the easy to digest melody and backing track while Debbiah’s vocals are reminiscent of artists who were popular in the 90’s like Dolores O’Riordan. This track would fit in well on any 90’s style pop playlist and you can find “Far Away” here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EziUWrX6LNI

Up Next is “Dancing With a Demon”, featuring Jason Brownlow. This track has a very bouncy nature to it, with the backing track’s melodic work matching the exceptional vocal melody. In terms of interplay between the vocals and backing track, it is absolutely phenomenal, and this song is so rich in melody that it is infectious. The music, mixing and mastering was completed by Gorsich while the lyrics and vocals were performed by Brownlow, and this song is a top tier example of how Tom Gorsich is able to bring out the best in the artists he works with. The fourth track we checked out was “Memories Never Fade Away”, featuring Greg Emond. This song again has Gorsich on music writing, mixing and mastering duties while Emond wrote the lyrics and performed the vocals; additional guitar was also added by Scott Baker. A tender and reflective song, Emond’s lyrics are nostalgic and grounded and the backing track provides the same feelings as the vocals - feelings of sadness, loss and reflection. Featuring elements of folk and country music, this song is a striking example of the variety of music that Tom Gorsich creates with the artists he works with and just how diverse his skillset really is. The final track we listened to was “You Blow My Mind”, featuring Frannie El. Another song with a 90’s style vibe, this song plays more like a club song from that era and its airy nature makes it pure ear candy. This song uses a tried and true pop song chord progression, giving it a familiar energy that is easy to enjoy. Frannie El and Andrea Guasco team up for the vocals on this track, providing a high quality melodic experience throughout. My favorite part of “You Blow My Mind” is definitely the way in which the bass grooves along throughout the track’s duration and the way it plays off the percussion; as a bass player myself, I enjoyed this instrumental choice immensely and truly enjoyed it. Overall, this selection of songs really represents the varied and professional work that Tom Gorsich is capable of. Clearly an individual with a great ear for music and eye for talent, Gorsich is able to take talented artists and elevate their sound in a way that brings out the best of their abilities - while also showcasing Gorsich’s own talents. You can find Tom Gorsich on YouTube and I hope you all enjoyed the listening journey we went on today as much as I did!
