Azwel - Half Empty/Half Full
Azwel is a music project created by Jason Perrillo featuring his live band, based in New York, NY. We have previously covered Azwel through the song “The Henchmen” and the group creates pop-rock music that draws from a lot of different influences. Today we take a look at “Half Empty/Half Full”, a song from Azwel’s upcoming album Halcyon, which is due out on October 28th.
“Half Empty/Half Full” is an excellent track that gives us a taste of Azwel’s capabilities. Lyrically, the song describes the relationship between a half full person and a half empty person; the way in which the song is able to contrast pessimism with optimism is beautifully echoed in the instrumental track, with the first half of the song sounding quite gloomy and the outro of the song reaching a bliss-like state, something that Azwel referred to as the “half full” part of the song. The approach taken in “Half Empty/Half Full” reminds me of a modernized Beatles song with the way the vocal melody and instrumental track interplay throughout the song’s duration.
Through “Half Empty/Half Full”, we get a feel for the diverse and distinctive songwriting that Azwel is capable of. One of Azwel’s key strengths is the ability to choose a theme and create a song that expertly allows that theme to flourish. You can check out Azwel’s site to learn more about the group and be sure to keep up with their Instagram as well; you can find more music on SoundCloud as well.
