Drake A. Wheeler is a composer whose pieces cover a wide range. After moving from his childhood home in Kentucky to Memphis, Tennessee, Wheeler turned to music. Today we are excited to share our thoughts on Drake A. Wheeler’s song, “The Dance of Samira For Concert Band”!
“The Dance of Samira” is an engaging and mesmerizing piece that effortlessly captivates during the entirety of its nearly seven-minute runtime. Indeed, I found myself nearly entranced by the sheer spirit and energy represented within this piece; this kept me coming back to this song long after my initial listening session. I can imagine this piece being utilized for a large theatrical film set piece as the camera pans in on a large dance hall and this mental image lends a lot of credence to the piece’s title.
