Echosmith - Say Stay Wait

“Say Stay Wait” is an unreleased song by the American band Echosmith – well, sort of. The song was originally intended for release on Inside a Dream which was originally planned to be released as a full-length album but ended up only seeing release as a 7-track EP, excluding some songs including “Say Stay Wait”. However, sometime in 2017, the song was distributed by the band’s label to music curation companies that manage retail companies like Target and Old Navy’s in-store playlists.

At its core, “Say Stay Wait” is a look at Echosmith at their best as they masterfully incorporate their indie pop sound and melodic flair. “Say Stay Wait” is a song about love fading and trying to convince the other person to stay and as a result it has reflective and sad lyrics while boasting a deeply nostalgic instrumental sound. The song is also extremely catchy and if the comments on the Youtube videos of the band’s live performances of the song are any indication, it is a favorite of both retail shoppers who happen to catch it during their shopping trip and concert goers lucky enough to catch it at a show.

In the end, I hope that someday Echosmith is able to release “Say Stay Wait” in a way that allows their fans to purchase the song and support the band. Until that day comes, at least we have live performances to listen to, and if you’re lucky enough, you’ll hear it during your next shopping trip to your favorite retailer.
