Hayley Williams - Dead Horse

“Dead Horse” is the newest single from Hayley Williams, an artist best known for her work as the lead vocalist of Paramore. The song comes from her newest solo EP Petals for Armor II.

Williams’ new song sounds quite a bit like the type of mid-tempo pop songs that were prominent back in the mid to late 2000’s, giving off strong Gwen Stefani vibes in both tone and composition. “Dead Horse” definitely has solid lyrical depth, with Williams admitting she stayed with a previous lover too long and all of the emotional pain that caused her. It progresses into a taunt during the bridge: “When I said goodbye, I hope you cried,” giving some payoff to all the feelings of pain and negativity.

While it’s a departure from Paramore’s style, Williams’ new material exhibiting shiny pop polish comes as no real surprise as her work has trended more towards the pop side of things for several years now; with her latest release, it sounds like she’s truly beginning to exhibit solid growth within this style.
