Edward W. Sealey - Brighter Than This ft. Felton Pilate
Edward W. Sealey is a Canadian composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist. Sealey has worked in music for decades but has only recently stepped into the realm of releasing his own music. Today we dive into Sealey’s debut single, the jazz and R&B filled “Brighter Than This”, which features legendary collaborator and hit maker Felton Pilate.
“Brighter Than This” is an instrumental track that is filled from front to end with excellent musicianship and melody. Throughout the song, the bassline drives the energy forward, grooving in all the right ways to make this track easy to vibe with. and even bob your head to a bit. Throughout “Brighter Than This”, the groove continually expands as more instruments join in and - through the utilization of expert jazz musicianship - the groove comes to an excellent flourish at the end of the track. Felton Pilate seems to have helped Sealey stay honed in and on target, and the production value in this song is incredible - as we have come to expect from the legendary Pilate.
Overall, “Brighter Than This” is an excellent and easy to enjoy track, even if you are not a fan of jazz music; the decision to infuse an R&B vibe into the song is part of the reason, but it is Sealey’s decision never to overindulge on his artistic choices that allows the song’s more jazzy features to succeed brilliantly.
