Frally - Girls Just Want to Have Fun (ft. Rufus Wainwright)

Frally Hynes is a music artist from Los Angeles, California. With a unique sound and style, Frally stands out amongst the crowd, delivering high quality music that is sure to entertain. Today we take a look at Frally’s cover of “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” which features Rufus Wainwright.

“Girls Just Want to Have Fun” is, of course, a cover of the classic song originally written by Robert Hazard and made famous by Cyndi Lauper, utilizing the Lauper version’s lyrics; Frally, uniquely, stylizes the title as “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” as well. Instead of standing out as a girl power anthem like Cyndi Lauper’s version, this version of the song is a bleak and somewhat depressing take on the lyrics. It is incredible how shifting the tone of the song the way Frally does can bring out the darker subtext of the lyrics and make you think about the song in a completely different way - though I must say this version still captures a rebellious spirit akin to Cyndi Lauper.

Frally performs “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” in a way that I have not previously heard and does an excellent job of making her version stand out in a great way, both from a writing and performing standpoint; this track really does a great job of showing us Frally’s true talent. Keep up with Frally on Instagram, Facebook and her website. We have “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” embedded below and you can also catch the song on Spotify!
