Get Excited for Ty Bru’s Next Album ‘Triple Bypass: Extraction’!
Ty Bru is an independent Hip-Hop music artist out of Asheboro, North Carolina. A world traveler and accomplished music artist, Bru is always doing some exciting things with his music that keeps us coming back for more. We are back again today to tease Ty Bru’s upcoming eleven-track album Triple Bypass: Extraction as well as share our latest interview with one of our favorite artists!
So far, Ty Bru has released three singles in support of Extraction those being “State of reMind”, “Legacy”, and “GTFO part 1”. Last August we wrote about the excellent “State of reMind” (you can read that article here) which combines Old School Hip-Hop vibes with Bru’s own unique flavor, making for a great experience overall. “Legacy” quite literally cements Bru’s legacy while speaking on his legacy and the choices he is making to build it. Bru’s flow in this track is intense in a way that really gets the point across which is truly awesome. “GTFO part 1” features some of my favorite melody work from Bru and some meaningful lyrics. A Westtopher shoutout and the quest to “get that toxic shit out of [his] life” are some real highlights with this song. These three songs are excellent teasers for Extraction and served to whet my appetite for more!
Now let’s jump into the interview where Ty gives us some info on Extraction and more!
Thanks for being with us again!
It's been a bit since we've spoken with you - how have you been? What have you been up to since we last spoke?
I’ve been doing great, very busy diving into my other forms of art. In November we had our first public Fashion Showcase with my Fall line of Women’s clothing and it was a success! https://youtu.be/S97ZFIqFuCs
So we are holding our next one June 11 and decided to combine it with an album release brunch, something a little different, unique and in a beautiful venue downtown Asheboro, NC called The Exchange. I’ve also been filming full time on various projects for musicians, artists, actors, businesses and collectors around North Carolina and have two separate month long art exhibits before the end of the year that will highlight my visual artistry blended with various lyrics from my 20 year hip hop career.
What can you tell us about your upcoming album?
This one is my fifth solo album and my third installment of my TRIPLE BYPASS series. It continues the journey through this symbolic heart failure. Following UNDER ANESTHESIA (2021) and being called EXTRACTION, it really focuses on things that I need to “get out of my system” before it can be replaced with something that will help the performance of my artist heart and hopefully improving the length and health of life.
Songs like ‘GTFOH part 1’ ‘GTFOH part 2’ ‘IDKAAB’ ‘Rearview’ and ‘Love Hurts’ really focus on facing the reality that some things, some people, some ways of thinking really need to be addressed, and often times totally removed from your life so that a person can excel or even to help become the person they are meant to become. I mean even sometimes I am the person who needs to be removed from their lives too, so this isn’t some kind of one way street, “im a better person than you” type of vibe, I know I can be just as toxic to a person as a person can be toxic to me. The key is to awareness and removal, that’s what these songs helped me with as I was going through the process, and I hope my listeners will be able to use these songs as a motivational tool to do the same.
We live in a world where guilt trips are common place and people are afraid to end friendships/relationships because of what MIGHT affect the OTHER person. If the pandemic taught us anything it was the importance of learning yourself and that everything could be taken away, leaving us by ourselves or with who is living in the same household as you are. So we need to do what we can to strengthen OURSELVES and our HOME and if being friends or working with someone, or even the fear of offending someone deters that from happening, a change is needed. A deep dive inside to revive is what I’ve been saying, kind of like a current mantra for me.
How is the music on your new album different from what you've released before?
Mostly those songs mentioned in the last question are the different ones. Taking a more modern approach with some more harmonies and some shorter verses, shorter songs in general and a highly intentional focus, I was able to conscientiously eliminate some songs from the project to save for another because I was aware it would take away from the piece of art it should be. I also didn’t strive for my trademark 5 syllable rhyme schemes that last the entire verse, instead I went where the thoughts took me without having to fit my rhymes into those strict boundaries that I usually implement. But there still are those songs like “Legacy” that showcase that to the T.
The biggest difference comes with the song ‘IDKAAB’ because up until that song I really strayed away from saying the word, “bitch.” I mean I think I might have said it a handful of times throughout over 1000 songs, but I was so against saying it, when I should have really been more aware of other words I was saying early on in my career instead of this one. In no way is this to degrade a gender, so I make it very clear in the song that it isn’t gender specific, the rest you will just have to listen to the song to find out yourself! In an interview last year with The Courier Tribune I was able to publicly address those words I mentioned, if anyone is interested to dive more, please do. https://www.courier-tribune.com/story/news/2021/06/22/asheboro-rapper-tackles-issues-social-injustice-fourth-album-triple-bypass-under-anesthesia/7683446002/
The final difference is that this is my first album that we are making a deluxe version of. We played with that idea on the previous one, but in the end it didn’t make sense. This one we are able to dive a little deeper into the working relationship that the producer, Westtopher and I have along with much needed features to actually complete the “Extraction” it’s kind of like a better interpretation of the symbolic procedure of a Triple Bypass, that sometimes it’s actually necessary to go BACK in and get more out.
Can you provide some insight to the writing and recording process this time around?
50% of this album was written at the same time as my previous album, which was in the beginning stages of the pandemic, so there were very little distractions and being with my wife and son 24-7 provided a higher level of inspiration and forced me to really understand what is the most important and precious in my life. I really became sour on how I was maneuvering prior to the pandemic and all the straight scrambling that I was doing that essentially led me into running in circles. I then took another deep dive and started eliminating all those people in my life that condoned or made it easier for me to be distracted from my ultimate goals or family and I’m really having to revisit that and remind myself of this now that the album is completed. In a nutshell that was the overall focus on the album, but as the pandemic ended I needed to round out the other 50% with something different, the yin and yang concept. So that’s where I get the songs like ‘Legacy’ and ‘Lockdown Lifted’
You've traveled the world across your career - do you have any plans to hit the road again in support of this new album?
With our second child on the way mixed with the high price of traveling at this moment, it really doesn’t make sense to travel like I once would with this one. Things in China are ridiculously locked down, and that would be the only place overseas that I would really want to revisit tour-wise at this moment in life. I have four shows on the schedule from now until October in my close vicinity, but other than that I actually plan on taking a long hiatus from live performances after that October 1st date. I have been really enjoying using that time in the recording studio the past two years. I should be able to release one more album this year and possibly another 2 in 2023, that’s what will last more than these live performances and tours that totally drain mentally, physically and financially.
Is there anything else you'd like our readers to know?
This album is produced entirely by longtime friend, Westtopher, whom I met about 2002 in college (Appalachian State University) and we have worked together ever since, he was my main producer for my first two solo albums, and now with my fifth it was time for him to produced it entirely. The lead off track ‘Do To ‘Em’ was using a beat that he made around our time of meeting each other 2002 and then ‘Legacy’ was made in late 2021, and the rest are all from years in between, it’s really a beautiful project to be a part of encompassing nearly 20 years. It’s rare for a friendship to last that long, let alone a business relationship.
In 2021 Westtopher was signed by Cool & Dre’s Epidemic music and just last week won the Dave East/Tracklib competition and will be flown out to NYC to make a record with Dave East in June. So I want to flex that for him for your readers and show him the utmost respect and love!
and it always make a difference if you follow, subscribe, stream, like, love, comment, pre-order whatever to any artist outlets! Please consider doing that for me as well! https://linktr.ee/tybrueilly
