GodlyOne - All I Know w/Interview
GodlyOne is a twenty year-old Hip-Hop artist from New York City, New York. In addition to his awesome Hip-Hop flow, GodlyOne also incorporates elements of other genres of music into his sound to craft a unique style that is completely his own. Today we are excited to share our thoughts on GodlyOne’s single, “All I Know”, as well as our interview with this talented music artist!
“All I Know” is an honest and genuine sounding track that shows the genre-bending skills of GodlyOne in a bright light. Much of the authentic feel comes from GodlyOne’s vocal performance which features some raw rap bars that really hit home. The backing instrumental is something truly spectacular; it incorporates elements of R&B that really helps to vibe with GodlyOne’s vocal performance. Combining these elements together positions “All I Know” as a complete package of a song: emotive, melodic, easy to vibe with and most importantly, easy to enjoy.
Now let’s jump into the interview!
Thanks for being with us today!
What does “All I Know” mean to you?
I’ve always been one to vocalize the real life events happening in or around my life. I understand everyone at some point in their life goes through a time where they feel as though their significant other has ended a relationship that meant the world to them. This song represents hope and tells you its okay to feel the emotions you feel after a break up.
What was the recording process like?
All my songs begin with the first thought that comes to my mind. I recently starting free-styling all my songs so I pick and choose what melody sounds catchy, what flow pattern compliments the other, etc. I record from my home studio that I recently got professionally done and work alongside my mix and master engineer David.
How does this song fit into your project Against The World?
This song fits the theme of the album perfectly. It’s quite literally, my idea of me Against The World. I used to be afraid of getting criticized about the type of music I make. What to say or what not to say. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized I need to make what makes me happy. I make music to vent and to touch the hearts of others who are in the position I was once in. The dark hole I thought I’d never find my way out of.
What's the story behind this song? What do you hope people take away from this track after listening to it?
The real story behind “All I Know” is about a few past relationships that each had me running around in circles. At some point, I decided enough was enough and began to be selfish. I also mention my new relationship and the real life conversation I had with her regarding the fact that I will put my mental health before the relationship because I can’t let it dictate my everyday life. I’d do anything for my girl though.
Were there any inspirations? Any artists that came to mind when writing this?
I take inspiration from a lot of artists. I think with this one, it was really more of me. The low but soothing feel I was going for really pops in this one. My all time favorite artists that I have taken a piece from though are Juice WRLD, 21 Savage, YNW Melly, Joji, Kanye and more.
What’s next for you?
My goals for the future are always changing but I think that just comes with maturity. When I first began recording music at 17, I would’ve said I wanted to be rich and famous. But now? I’m okay with the audience size I have. Of course I’d like to be mainstream but my main focus is to make good, meaningful music and to be a positive influence in someone’s life. My favorite artist Juice WRLD made music that helped me out of a dark mindset I was in. His passing made me feel as though I need to share the life he made me realize I had. It may sound corny to some people but you only really understand this once you’ve been in that position.
Thank you!
