Hollywood Video Game Kill-Bot - This is Death
Hollywood Video Game Kill-Bot is a one man band created by Zachary Chacon. Chacon plays all of the instruments in Hollywood Video Game Kill-Bot and will sometimes use samples from Magix Music Maker, GarageBand or Logic Pro X, overall creating a distinctive sound that is entirely his own. Today we take a listen to Hollywood Video Game Kill-Bot’s single, “This is Death”.
“This is Death” is an incredibly interesting three minute and twenty-three second long song featuring elements of electronic music and piano. The EDM elements in the track seem relatively normal, if not slightly eerie and that portion of the song alone would make for a solid and pleasant listening experience overall; a driving bassline and solid percussion keep the song steady while light synth work provides some nice accents and the aforementioned slight eeriness. What makes the song stand out as something intentionally unsettling is the off-key piano which truly makes the song uncomfortable to listen to - in a good way. This is a song that I keep coming back to, despite feeling slightly uncomfortable; the song hits kind of like a horror movie in that regard - you want to look away but you are so drawn in you keep watching, or in this case, listening.
From listening to “This is Death”, you can get a real sense of the creativity and ingenuity that Zachary Chacon brings to Hollywood Video Game Kill-Bot; there are not many songs out there like this one. The artistic choices featured in “This is Death” truly capture the essence of what it may be like to die, or be dead and explores the feeling in a way that not many artists out there would attempt which makes the song succeed.
