Jillimune - Don’t Don’t w/Interview

Jillimune is an Australian electronic music producer who is from Brisbane. Capturing a rich soundscape with each song, Jillimune truly offers something special to the music lexicon. Today we are excited to share our thoughts on Jillimune’s single, “Don’t Don’t”, as well as our interview with this talented artist!

“Don’t Don’t” comes in at a minute and forty-eight seconds and provides a lush soundscape in its short runtime. The way the vocals blend with the backing instrumental creates a euphoric sense while the vocals themselves are extremely melodic which gives the song something that will truly stick with you after listening. I could not help but be impressed by the overall way “Don’t Don’t” left me feeling; the song is incredibly emotive and, as previously stated, the soundscape is lush and truly powerful.

Now let’s jump into the interview!

Thank you for being with us today!

Hi Which Coast Music, thank you for your questions.

When did you get your start in music? How'd that come about?

I started 5 years ago in high school / middle school after listening to Flume and being completely captured by his sound design and the uniqueness that his production has. I bought a small Akai mpk mini and downloaded the free version of FL Studio before switching to Ableton Suite shortly after.

Who are some of your favorite music artists? What kind of influence do they have on the music you make?

Definitely flume is number 1 in terms of my personal influence, whether it be through music or being a young Aussie bloke he resonates with me, he was the reason I started. Other influences include RUFUS DU SOL, joji, Sticky Fingers and RL Grime.

What are you most proud of as a music artist? What are some of your goals for your career?

I am currently most proud of the sound design on tracks "Don't Don't" & "Aurora", I'm glad they have somewhat been my top 2 songs so far, they were made over a few very late nights. I hope to play a live show in my home city of Brisbane and then venture overseas to share my music with more of our world.

We listened to "Don't Don't" which has an awesome soundscape to pair with some great vocals. Can you walk us through the songwriting and recording process for this song?

Don't Don't was initially inspired by my repeated listening of a track called "Bring you down" by flume featuring Geroge Maple. I created the sound and instrumental in a few days and the lyrics just felt correct for the sound design.

What's next for you?

I would really like to play a live set in my home city of Brisbane anywhere. But eventually, the end goal is to play at the Riverstage venue within Brisbane city or play the main stage within the festival showgrounds here. For me, it would not get bigger than that having grown up here and seen so many of my music idols in those places. I have a few new singles coming through this year. I also plan to make an hour of music that has never been heard before, to almost tell a story without words, and then create a film to accompany it, I hope to finish that before the end of the year!

Thank you again for taking the time today!

After our interview, it is easy to tell how proud Jillimune is of the awesome soundscape presented in “Don’t Don’t” - sentiments that I am sure listeners of this song will get to understand firsthand. Make sure you check out Jillimune’s website and Instagram for artist updates and more. We have “Don’t Don’t” embedded below - we hope you enjoy the song and enjoyed our interview with Jillimune!
