John Lion - I Don’t Believe in Magic

John Lion is a singer-songwriter who is currently based in London. Working through London’s underground scene for five years, John Lion brings an intriguing and mysterious aura to the music he creates - where his goal is to craft “songs he wishes he could hear on the radio, that relate to life experiences”. We are excited to share our review of “I Don’t Believe in Magic”, John Lion’s debut single, which released in February of 2021.

“I Don’t Believe in Magic” comes in at two minutes and forty-two seconds and from the outset, its mysterious nature is sure to catch your ear. Driven instrumentally by an acoustic guitar, a groovy bassline and some clean percussion work, the backing track accompanies Lion’s outstanding vocal performance perfectly, complimenting the darkness in his voice perfectly. Through John Lion’s vocals, we really get that sense of mysticism and mystery that his music presents and this song in particular has quite a magic air surrounding it - ironic given the track’s title is “I Don’t Believe in Magic”.

John Lion’s sound reminds me of groups like Oasis, though in some ways darker and slightly twisted, and “I Don’t Believe in Magic” has a certain mysterious theatrical nature to it, which definitely makes it memorable. Be sure to keep up with John Lion through Instagram and Facebook and as always we have “I Don’t Believe in Magic” embedded below via Spotify - you can also find the song on YouTube!
