J.R.P. Seriel - The Trip

J.R.P. Seriel is a singer/songwriter, record producer, poet and visual artist from Puerto Rico. A talented artist with plenty of aspirations, J.R.P. Serial’s goal is for his music to be heard by listeners across the globe - a lofty goal for sure, but not out of reach for this eighteen year old. Today we are excited to share our thoughts on J.R.P. Seriel’s new five-song EP titled The Trip.

From the opening moments of the EP’s title track “The Trip”, which kicks off the EP, you will be absolutely sucked in by the sounds of J.R.P. Seriel. I really enjoy the way in which this song features a minimalist approach to the backing instrumental and the way in which J.R.P. Seriel’s soulful vocals play off the percussion in this song is pure bliss. “Even in Our Sleep” follows and features a more complex backing instrumental than “The Trip”, which shows off the depth of J.R.P. Seriel’s production skills. This song is also quite melodic while still maintaining J.R.P. Seriel’s soulful approach to the vocals and lyrics; this song sounds as if it is written from a personal experience and it really adds a strong emotive layer to the overall atmosphere presented within. The third track from the EP is “Just a Dream” which features a euphoric soundscape befitting of its name. This six minute and forty-five second song has multiple movements that come together and tell a story, all the while giving off dream-laden vibes.

“Awakening My Senses” is the fourth track from The Trip and the track showcases J.R.P. Seriel’s songwriting and production skills brilliantly; the way the backing vocals echo throughout this song, supplanting Seriel’s lead vocals, is perfectly executed and this technique adds a lush layer of texture to the song that really makes it stand out. The last half of the song is also quite a bit different from the first half, though both halves of the song play well into one another, really offering a distinctive listening experience. Closing out the EP is “Embrace Yourself Higher”, which is a powerful, complete package of a song. Drawing from a deep personal experience, this song’s lyrics are incredibly resonant and there is an incredible amount of raw emotion shared by J.R.P. Seriel’s vocal performance.

All of J.R.P. Seriel’s music has a genuine, soulful approach that makes it easy to get into. There is a certain heartfelt nature within the rhythmic soundscapes that J.R.P. Seriel creates that is undeniably enjoyable and I think that you will get a lot out of the songs from The Trip. You can keep up with J.R.P.
