From the opening chords of “Lost In Paradise”, one thing is made very apparent: this song is incredibly catchy from top to bottom, both in its instrumental portion and in Tanja Carol’s vocal performance. Truly, the interplay between the instrumental and vocals really develops some extremely gripping textures that give this song the chops to get stuck in your head for a long time. Tanja Carol’s voice has this certain sweet quality to it with a naturally warm and easy to enjoy tone which makes this song have an extremely authentic feeling to it - you really get the feeling that she is singing from experience.
Now let’s jump into the interview!
Thank you so much for being with us for this interview today!
You grew up in a music-loving family. How did your experiences with music growing up shape the artist that you have become?
This time has given me a lot. Above all, it led me to feel, grasp and understand music in its entirety. I also learned to enjoy music that goes far beyond consuming music. And finally, even in my childhood and youth, my mother introduced me to "working with music." She played as 1. Violin in several orchestras, these experiences have opened many doors in me.
What made you decide to take the leap and start out your career in the music business?
Music has always played a essential part in my life. I discovered my love for songwriting as a Teenager and developed it with several local artists. At the same time I played roles in Musicals and nearly started to study musical performance. Life took a different turn and my current producer encouraged me to venture into music, to interpret sound recordings and videos on the one hand and to design original material on the other. His accompaniment not only protected and supported me in this, he also understood it well to demand and promote me in one. Music has always existed for me and it has always been an important part of my life. But it was only through him that a base was created that can finally show first fruits.
Who are some of your favorite music artists out there? Do you feel like their sound has influenced your own sound?
I was strongly influenced by RnB and Hip Hop Vibes at a young Age, such as classics like Usher, Chris Brown, Rihanna or Pop Queens like Ariana Grande and Leona Lewis. But when it comes to Songwriting and the melodic way of vocal productions, RnB and Afrobeats, particularly Jhene Aiko, Burna Boy, Emeli Sandé and Ella Mai influenced me a lot.
We took a listen to your debut single, "Lost In Paradise" and think it is magnificently melodic. Can you share some details about the writing and recording process for this song?
My producer presented me with a lot of lyrics, and in several steps we picked out a handful of lyrics together, lyrics that touched me deeply as I said. His plan was that as a newcomer, I should first get into the feeling of making music, and start with a few songs that I could strongly influence, both in lyrics and music.
So he also let me work with different music composers. In the end, there were 4 songs left that grew in this way. And because creation, production and release are on the timeline in succession and the process for the artists differs considerably, my producer has given me a head start in this way, so that now, while these first songs are being released, I am already working on my own songs, which can then be released seamlessly. Nevertheless, step by step I have become a part of "Lost In Paradise" and it from me.
What is next for Tanja Carol?
After about 3 singles, in the summer of 2022 an EP is on the list and then the album, everything definitely lasts until the end of 2022.
Thank you!
