KÍTA - Postponed
KÍTA is an electronic pop artist who always stays true to her authentic self in her music. She also strives to empower women in both her music and in life; to this end, she set out to create an album from the ground up by herself, mastering all elements of songwriting and producing. This new album, Postponed, got its name from the lengthy recording process that KÍTA went through and was released on July 12, 2020.
Postponed is a refreshing testament to the fact that electropop is still a thriving genre full of creative artists. The album as a whole features brilliantly produced synths and beats along with catchy vocal melody that is sometimes distorted with various effects that add a unique layer to the listening experience. Postponed is best listened to from start to finish, though some tracks definitely stood out to me.
“Intro” kicks the album off with various vocal lines spliced together, cluing the listener in on some of the things that fueled KÍTA throughout her process with Postponed'; she was able to turn negative perspective on women in music into a brilliant album. “Mississippi” features the most pop polish on the entire album and has an infectious vocal melody with cool electronic effects that further the song’s memorability. “Over With” ends the record on a high note, featuring a very groovy beat and vocal production reminiscent of Imogen Heap.
As previously stated, Postponed was written, recorded and produced entirely by KÍTA herself; while she did this to make a statement and empower women, her methods had the added effect of showing off her brilliant skills across all facets of music creation and production.
