Oh Well - Lost Time Traveler
Oh Well is the electronica-laced music project from musician Ryan Oswald. Based in Chicago, Illinois, this rising artist recently released an EP titled Insomnia back in December of 2019; Oh Well recently dropped an excellent new single, titled “Lost Time Traveler” on July 2, 2020.
“Lost Time Traveler” opens with a synth melody that immediately sounds frantic and hopeless; as the title suggests, “Lost Time Traveler” is about a time traveler who is lost and unable to return home - the titular lost time traveler is searching for a way home and later in the track even wishes he could go back before he created the time machine he used to go back in the first place. The lyrics have a very desperate and exasperated tone to them and Oh Well does an outstanding job selling the listener on the story he is putting forth in this track; not only is it easy to picture the experiences this time traveler is going through but it is also easy to empathize with them.
“Lost Time Traveler” features the outstanding electronica skills Oh Well is known for but this track in particular also features a strong beat reminiscent of what one might expect from hip-hop; I feel like this adds to the track in a very positive way as the beat matches up with the vocal melody in a very catchy way. I feel like this song shows off Oh Well’s skill as a songwriter and a producer very well.
