Lorenzo Gabanizza - Someone Waiting At Their Door

Lorenzo Gabanizza is a Country music artist and producer from Verona, Italy. An artist with plenty of experience and many influences, Gabanizza brings a unique sonic aesthetic to the music he creates. Today we take a listen to Lorenzo Gabanizza’s 3-track EP, Someone Waiting At Their Door, which is dedicated to the victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks and their families.

Someone Waiting At Their Door begins with the title track, “Someone Waiting At Their Door”. This song seems to be a heartfelt recollection of the morning of September 11th, 2001, walking us through the tragic loss of life that day. The backing track offers up feelings of nostalgia and sorrow while seeming to still hold on to that sliver of hope that united the United States that day. Although this track has a very smooth feeling to it, there is something so undeniably heart-stopping about it and it serves as an excellent tribute to those who suffered from the events of the attacks.

Up next is the two minute and six-second track, “It’s Been”. Compared to the preceding track, “It’s Been” is significantly more upbeat and up-tempo in nature. Gabanizza is able to execute perfectly with a catchy and memorable vocal melody while the up-tempo instrumental is absolutely on-point. Despite the way this track sounds on the surface, it is actually another deep and sorrow filled number; the track’s lyrics are about the loneliness felt on a “frozen winter” night as the singer reflects on missing his babe with “burning lips” who is not with him anymore - a situation felt by thousands of family members of those lost in the September 11th attacks.

Closing out the three-track EP is “To Sing For You”. This song strikes chords by taking a folk approach that is reminiscent of many Bob Dylan classics, capturing the same kind of spirit those legendary songs have. An acoustic guitar carries the instrumental portion of the track along while a harmonica solo at the 2:21 mark serves as a highlight. Lyrically, the song has deep meaning and the folk style approach helps get that message across; in some ways this song feels like “Mr. Tambourine Man” from a different angle, as Gabanizza comfortingly offers to sing for the listener. Overall, “To Sing For You” closes out the EP wonderfully, punctuating the heartfelt messages these songs represent.

Mastered by Bob Dylan’s engineer, Don Tyler, Someone Waiting At Their Door provides a great listening experience across all aspects of production and musicianship; guest fiddle work by Ian Cameron was especially on-point throughout. Most importantly, this EP serves as a moving tribute to all of those lost on September 11, 2001 and their families who had to continue on.
