Madeline Rosene - Talking to Myself
Madeline Rosene is an indie pop singer/songwriter in Los Angeles, California. We have previously covered Madeline Rosene and her excellent track, “Numb”, which served as a striking introduction to her distinctive music style and we are back to listen to another. Today we take a dive into Madeline Rosene’s song “Talking to Myself” from the album Raised on Porn.
“Talking to Myself” features several mental health related themes. Lyrically, Rosene takes us through what feels like a manic episode with lines like “put the fire out with fire/and then burn it down for fun” garnering my attention, with the lyrics seeming to embrace these feelings; however, Rosene’s vocal performance seems to hint at more at times, especially during the softer moments in the song. The song’s backing track also does an excellent job of matching Rosene’s vocals perfectly; when her vocals become explosive, the track follows suit and during softer moments, it briefly settles.
Having now had the chance to cover two of Madeline Rosene’s songs from Raised on Porn, I feel it is safe to say that she has a great deal of talent that she expresses wonderfully through her music; “Talking to Myself” really is a strong example of the creativity that Rosene has in both her writing and recording skillset.
