Motortaksi - Engineer in Sauna

Motortaksi is a music artist who taps into many genres to create a distinctive, fused style. Indeed, by fusing elements of Electronic, Indietronic, Experimental, Trip-hop and Indie Rock music, this artist crafts interesting songs that both intrigue and inspire. Today we are excited to share our thoughts on Motortaksi’s new EP, Engineer in Sauna!

Engineer in Sauna begins with “He’s Thinking” and this song does well to capture the figurative grinding of gears in the mind. Instrumentally, I was particularly drawn in by the bass and percussion work and think that this song is a rhythmic wonder - the kind of song that is good to listen to so you can jumpstart your own mind. “He Realized” is next and the song continues the motifs - both musical and in an emotional sense - from the previous track. I do wish I knew just what it was that the titular engineer realized but I still greatly appreciate how Motortaksi is able to capture that “a-ha” moment in this song, making it a very gripping experience.

Third from Engineer in Sauna is “He’s Drying Himself” which was, for me, the most interesting song from this project. There are multiple sections in this song that sound like they are trying to emulate the sound of someone drying themselves, making this song have a quite literal feel and meaning - and standing tall as a very interesting listening experience. The bass also really carries the song in a memorable way. “He’s Getting Dressed”, a masterclass in expert percussion work. I found myself quite impressed by the way this song feels so simple yet so intricate at the same time. “He Left” closes out the EP in an important way, and for me, posed the question: where will the engineer go next? This song has layers upon layers of intrigue baked into its structure and was the song I came back to the most while listening to this project as a whole.

One thing that I really enjoy about this collection of songs is how literal all of the titles are; they literally describe what the titular engineer is doing and this helps the listener paint a picture to pair with the song. That said, the music material included in each song is not just straightforward and simple, rather it also requires an introspective approach to listening to draw out the deeper meaning laced into each note.
