Nick Anderson and the Skinny Lovers - King and Queen
Nick Anderson and the Skinny Lovers are a rock band helmed by Nick Anderson and based in Wisconsin. The group has a pop-rock sound with clear influences from pop-punk and other related genres and its sound is fueled by Anderson’s vocals. Today we take a listen to “King and Queen” from the album Ephrem.
“King and Queen” starts with a bouncy and catchy guitar riff that sets the table well and the song as a whole builds off of this riff well. Full of pep and energy, Nick Anderson’s voice drives the vocal melody and the song as a whole, really capitalizing on the summer vibe the group was going for. I also found the guitar work on the track to be phenomenal, really supporting the vocals and overall vibe of the song in a catchy and impactful way. Overall, “King and Queen” reminded me of some of Simple Plan and Bowling For Soup’s best work but does a great job of standing on its own as a catchy and fun summer track thanks to Anderson’s unique voice and energy.
Triumphantly declaring “we’re the king and queen of the summer”, “King and Queen” lives up to the hype as a great summer rock song. The music video was also quite fun and I recommend watching it for your first listen to this track. Check out Nick Anderson and the Skinny Lovers’ website and Instagram to keep up with the group.
