Azwel - The Henchmen
Azwel is a music project created by Jason Perrillo featuring his live band, currently based in New York. The group creates melodic pop-rock songs that feature a variety of different sonic influences which creates a distinctive sound. Today we dive into Azwel’s single, “The Henchmen”, from the upcoming album Halcyon which is due out in September 2020.
“The Henchmen” is a very catchy but quite subdued track, displaying Azwel’s ability to create art within a set space. Lyrically, the track goes through the activities of a villain while acknowledging that the titular henchmen made the villain what he is; the entire track is a story about this villain and his henchmen, making it one of the most fun approaches to storytelling in a song that I have heard lately. I really enjoyed the way that the song’s instrumental portion truly sounded reminiscent of film score from a spy/thriller type of film, beautifully acknowledging the track’s lyrical theme and title.
“The Henchmen” has a gloomy element to it but still remains melodically catchy which makes it one of the most interesting tracks I’ve heard this year. The track truly is a piece of art that displays Azwel’s excellent songwriting and performing skills.
