Painter Fingers - Sending Me to Die
Painter Fingers is the musical persona of Travis Charles Hagan. A public school teacher by day, Hagan has only been recording music under the name Painter Fingers since this past Spring but he has already released seven songs and four music videos. Today we take a listen to Painter Fingers’ song, the grimly titled “Sending Me to Die”.
“Sending Me to Die” was written about the COVID-19 pandemic and Painter Fingers’ relationship with it; as previously stated, he works as a teacher for his day job and this song tracks his concerns that the powers that be are sending him to his death by sending him to work without any real protections against the virus. Folksy in both instrumentation and theme, the song also stands as something to remember Painter Fingers by if the worst does indeed come to pass. The fact that “Sending Me to Die” comes from such a personal place helps make it a very special song and its poignant nature really hits home for those of us living a similar reality to what Travis Hagan currently is.
“Sending Me to Die” is a beautiful song, filled with an incredible and down-to-earth sadness that is sure to resonate with you as it did with me. Although we have reviewed quite a bit of pandemic-themed music over these recent months, “Sending Me to Die” seems to be the most genuine of them all.
