Saudy Familia - Holding In
Saudy Familia is a Dominican-born composer, songwriter and drummer who is currently based in New York City. Familia combines elements of R&B, Salsa, Soul and Latin Jazz in a way that allows for him to have a sound that stands out in a talented pool of Latin musicians. We previously had the opportunity to listen to Saudy Familia’s love-filled track, “Only You and Me” and today we take a dive into his third single, “Holding In”, featuring Marifé, which is yet another excellent track.
“Holding In”, which features Familia as writer, composer and arranger, is a splendid track about holding feelings in. Marifé’s vocals are spectacular, telling a heartfelt story and her vocal style fits the instrumental portion of the track perfectly. The instrumental is easy to groove to, brimming with melody and vibrant energy. I especially enjoyed the horns on the track, with Familia’s composition coming to life with excellent performances by trumpeter Javier Aponzá and trombonist Leo Morales. From start to finish, “Holding In” is a true ear-pleaser with a danceable instrumental track full of rich melodies and terrific lyrics; as with the previously covered “Only You and Me”, Saudy Familia truly created a complete package of a song with “Holding In”.
Saudy Familia’s talent is exceptional but it is notable that “Holding In” also features a very talented performing cast; in addition to the previously mentioned Marifé, Aponzá and Morales, the track features splendid performances by bassist Jose Juvinao, drummer and percussionist Juan Aguilar and engineer Eric Maldonado; these performers brought the best out of Familia’s track while Familia was able to write a song that let their talents truly shine through. Being that this is the second track we have covered of Familia’s, I feel like it is easy to say at this point that Saudy Familia has a big talent with a lot of heart and the one-of-a-kind music he creates is truly heart-filled and inspired.
