Sonic Radiation - Roentgen w/Interview
Sonic Radiation is the EDM project of Todd Last which was formed in Dallas, Texas in 2003. Sonic Radiation features a wide variety of influences across many genres, contributing to an ear-pleasing high-energy sound that blends genres in a refreshing way. Today we take a listen to Sonic Radiation’s new single, “Roentgen” which released today, November 20, 2020, as well as share our interview with Sonic Radiation!
“Roentgen” is an electrifying song from start to finish, featuring tantalizing synths and a brilliant groove. The track feels like something from the soundtrack of a sci-fi action/thriller film and features an emotive feeling of both intrigue and adventure, truly giving off a spirited vibe. I also felt something of a space thematic from the track, largely due to the expert synth work that really crafts a connection with the imagination. “Roentgen” is a track that I could imagine pumping on a hype club-themed playlist or as action/adventure oriented film score; I believe the wide range of emotion that this song gives off come directly from Sonic Radiation’s wide array of influences and how he is able to take the music he likes and blend it in a way that is truly his own.
Thanks to Todd Last/Sonic Radiation for the interview! Let’s jump right in!
Thank you so much for being with us today!
You've been making music since 2003. How did you get your start in music?
Hello! Thank you so much for the interview. When I first heard electronic music in college, I was blown away! It was so different and unique from anything I'd heard before. I was hooked and had to make my own. It took a longtime and I'm thrilled to be able to now.
I always like asking the EDM artists we interview about their writing process; everyone seems to take different and unique approaches. Can you take us through your writing process?
My thinking is always to try and make a sound that I like. After I got it the best I can, I can't wait to share it with hopes that others will enjoy it in whatever way they like to listen to music and maybe, be an escape for them.
You have quite a few different influences that have helped you create genre-bending EDM. In what ways have your artistic influences found their way into your music? Is there any particular influence that stands out to you as the most important in creating your sound?
I really enjoy movies and music. I'm a huge fan of Star Wars and sci-fi movies. Also, great bands like Rush, Depeche Mode and many others really capture my attention. I think my style kind of happens by making a sound that takes the best of what I like and enjoy in what I see and hear as a fan. I've truly loved music all my life and I love being a part of the world of electronic music. Trying to make the best song I can is always my interest and task at hand. Contributing to the genre of electronic music is something that I enjoy and is important for me.
How has your style changed through the years? Has EDM reaching a more mainstream audience over the last decade had any influence on that?
I think all my songs try to grab you by the ear. I hope each one takes you on a different journey through time and space. Each track really reflects my skill level and life at the time. I release each song when it's finished and I hope over time that will be interesting.
"Roentgen" is your new single that just released. We took a listen to it and it sounds like a song straight out of an action/thriller movie. What exact kind of vibe were you trying to create with it?
My newest release is another journey into and back from the unknown. When making a song, I enjoy trying to create a sonic character with a unique energy and getting it sounding the best I can then sharing it with others throughout out the galaxy.
Is there anything else you'd like our readers to know about you or your music?
Thanks again for the great interview. I really enjoyed it! My mind, body and soul are ichin' to start my next track. Each one takes a long time so I better get to it. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy "Roentgen" in your Space!
Thank you again for taking the time to be with us today!
