The Pierce Project - Vanilla Parfait

The Pierce Project is a rock group based in Destin, Florida. A band made up of three brothers and their father - Joe, Jimmy, Luke and Nick Pierce - the group is heavily inspired by classic rock and aims to modify that sound to create relevant contemporary rock. Today we take a look at The Pierce Project’s track, “Vanilla Parfait”, from the album Songs for Emi.

“Vanilla Parfait” is a pop-y song that contains playfully innocent lyrics, featuring the singer crushing on actress Marisa Tomei (whose name also provides an excellent rhyme with the song’s title). Vocally, the track features harmonies and heartfelt phrasing, adding a sense of authenticity to the innocent approach of the song. The track seems to take a lot of influence from 60’s-era pop-rock while the solo that begins around the forty-second mark brings in elements of contemporary lo-fi indie rock, a combination that works extremely well in this song.

In the end, “Vanilla Parfait” reminded me of a lot of the Beach Boys’ sunnier songs, both in its instrumental track and the harmonized vocals; the playful lyrics also hit the mark and further reminded me of that smooth 60’s pop-rock sound. The Pierce Project add enough contemporary sensibilities to this song to keep that sound fresh as well as enhance it, truly aligning with the band’s goal to add a fresh take on classic rock. Keep up with The Pierce Project through their website and Twitter. We have “Vanilla Parfait” embedded below for your listening pleasure!
