The Primary - 100 Miles an Hour
The Primary is a rock band from Dallas, TX. The group formed in 2007 and have since gone on to have local, national and even international success; although the group has had many lineup changes through the years, founding members Josh Vasquez and Ricky Herring are leading the band once again. Today we dive into their single, “100 Miles an Hour”, from the upcoming album Square One, which will be released on October 16, 2020.
“100 Miles an Hour” is a master class in melody with incredibly catchy vocals and guitar work that perfectly accents the vocals. Lyrically, the song traverses nostalgic themes with the desire to go back in time and live life better a second time - a relatable and resonating message. At the 1:26 mark a brief pause in the action begins, allowing the bass and drums to briefly take center stage; I found this to be a very nice touch as both the bass and percussion performances were outstanding on the track and this songwriting choice really lets those elements shine. All aspects of “100 Miles an Hour” really come together to make a cohesive and superb track, with great melodies and radio friendly polish.
Overall, “100 Miles an Hour” is a very spirited release, filled with plenty of energy and melodic bliss. This track shines in such a way that it will make you want to listen to more of The Primary’s discography - as well as get you hyped for their upcoming album Square One. Later this month you can buy “100 Miles an Hour” from The Primary’s Bandcamp and make sure to keep an eye on Bandcamp and YouTube for upcoming releases!
