Kilo House - R.U.N. (w/Interview)
Kilo House is an EDM music producer who makes great Trap songs. Kilo House is wheelchair-bound but he has never let that hold him back, least of all with his powerful and up-tempo music - his mantra is “turn up and then stay up”. Today we are excited to take a listen to his electrifying single, “R.U.N.”, Kilo House’s first new song since returning to music after three years, as well as share our interview with this talented artist!
“R.U.N.” grooves incredibly hard with a deep and in-your-face bass. The track features some rising and falling elements, building to a high then coming back down, only to rise again after a drop. In addition to Kilo House’s excellent handmade production, “R.U.N.” also features some sampling from the film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and uses audio cues from that film in a very tasteful way - this song manages to be both incredibly hype and fun while also incorporating these horror elements. “R.U.N.” is the type of track that will get you hyped up instantaneously and would play well at a loud dance club or just on a playlist of songs to get yourself psyched for a night out or big moment.
Now, let’s get into the interview!
Two of your influences are blink 182 to $uicideBoy$ but currently create EDM with a strong Trap flavor. Do you have any other influences? In what ways do you find these artists have influenced your sound?
Yes I am also influenced by many deathcore bands such as Carnifex, Oceano, I Declare War and many more. I have been influenced by an amazing array of music through the years such as Roger Miller (country) to Even bands like Smash Mouth. But there is always one underlying theme and that is FUCK it and just have FUN.
I feel that my background as a deathcore drummer has had one of the biggest influences on my music as a WHOLE. Although I write Terror Trap music I still feel that my use of movie samples and grimy drops give the same feeling as a good deathcore "BREAKDOWN".
Although, the song "Paris" by $uicideBoy$ has had the biggest influence on my sound sonically. When I first heard that song it immediately GAVE me the same butterflies inside that one gets when discovering a new deathcore band and I thought to myself...THAT!
You’re an alumni of ICON Collective. What kind of music experience did you have before ICON? How did your experience with ICON Collective help shape your current sound?
As I stated before my Background is based in the underground metal scene. When I joined the beloved ICON COLLECTIVE I always thought to myself "I'M A PRODUCER" and I graduated thinking "I BARELY HAVE SCRATCHED THE SURFACE OF PRODUCTION". ICON taught me that this is an ever expanding market with endless possibilities for artists to express themselves. I credit ICON COLLECTIVE for freeing my mind enough for me to become one of the founders of Terror Trap, through learning The Art of Flow.
Could you take me through your songwriting and production processes?
Well unlike most producers I know I actually start with my melody first not my drums. Just like a band wound Create and Write a song together I do the same. I start with an 8 bar melody first (on my lead of choice) and then the drums and the bass, so on and so forth. I really just let the song go wherever it wants rather then trying to filter it through my own minds eye.
“R.U.N” is an aggressive and in-your-face song that I found easy to jam to. What kind of overall vibe were you going for with this song? Was there a particular experience or idea that had an influence on this song’s creation?
R.U.N. was actually my first song back from a 3 year hiatus I had to take do to me almost losing my life to necrotiZing pneumonia. In which time they had to do 3 surgeries and take out 1/3 of my right lung. So the fun nature and high octane vibes of the track is really my way of giving the world a fun yet Terrifying song to listen to in not only the good times but also in some of its most hard and trying times such as TODAY. I really never want this world to lose its wonder and awe inspiring nature.
Is “R.U.N.” a standalone single or is it going to be part of an upcoming album, EP or mixtape?
There "might be" a little tasty treat in store for my fans around Halloween....STAY TUNED!!!
Is there anything else you’d like our readers to know about you or your music?
I really would just like your readers to know that although my music is dark my message is of light and positivity. As my father perfectly put it "My music is a PARADOX".
Many thanks to Kilo House for that interview!
Kilo House’s strongest theme with his music is “FUCK IT AND JUST HAVE FUN” and it is pretty obvious he had fun with “R.U.N.”. It is always a great experience to get insight into artists’ writing processes and it was definitely interesting that Kilo House mentioned he starts with melody first instead of laying down his drums; I feel like this emphasis on melody helps Kilo House’s music be stronger and you can definitely hear some of what he is talking about in “R.U.N.”. Overall, “R.U.N.” is an exceptional song and, as we have learned, Kilo House is an exceptional music creator.
You can hear Kilo House’s other music on Spotify and as always, you can check out “R.U.N.” embedded below! Be sure to keep an eye out around Halloween for a possible “treat” that Kilo House may have in store!
