The Side Deal - I Can See Clearly Now
The Side Deal is a supergroup formed in Newport Beach, California, and made up of artists from bands including Sugar Ray, Train and PawnShop Kings. Together with their record label, Goldie Records, the group came together to release “I Can See Clearly Now'', a cover of the classic song by Johnny Nash. The band and their label are hoping this release will alleviate some of the stress and promote high hopes to everyone amid the current affairs brought to us by COVID-19.
“Our aim with this imagery tied to our recording of this classic song is to bring hope for better days ahead, reminding each of us that there will be an inevitable return to normalcy. Better times are ahead, where smiles and togetherness will heal the varying degrees of loss that have touched us all.”
The Side Deal’s cover of “I Can See Clearly Now” starts a bit differently than the original version of the song, opening with the lyrics “Well, it’s alright now” which progresses into a groovy bass lead-in. The visuals provide a feeling of comfort, feelings of vacations, and sunshine that may seem foreign to us now. The production is on point and truly gives this track the polish it needs to really shine. Perhaps the sunniest sounding version of “I Can See Clearly Now” that I have ever heard, The Side Deal’s version is also accompanied by an equally hopeful music and lyric video.
When it comes down to it, The Side Deal’s cover of “I Can See Clearly Now” is one of the best renditions of the track that I have ever heard and it shines bright among contemporary pop rock offerings.
