The Vespertine Kind - Crossroads
The Vespertine Kind is a solo project created by Dawlish based musician Graham Iddon. In his music, Iddon seeks to infuse folk with elements of rock, blues and ambiance in an effort to create an atmospheric sound, while honing in on unusual subjects and utilizing experimental production methods. Today we take a look at The Vespertine Kind’s new single, “Crossroads”, which was released on August 27, 2020.
“Crossroads” does an excellent job of capturing the grit and spirit of folk music while incorporating a truly roots-y blues vibe. The subtle but spirited acoustic guitar does a great job of setting up an almost unreal and ethereal atmosphere while the vocals ground the song in a way that sounds almost spiritual; Iddon takes a very bluesy vocal approach that serves the lyrics incredibly well while also guiding the track towards its theme. “Crossroads” will go well with any folk and blues music you might listen to and overall it presents a unique atmosphere and listening experience.
It is easy to tell that Graham Iddon puts his all into his music - he has even gone so far as to dislocate his jaw to sequence it for percussion in another song - and “Crossroads” is an exceptional display of skill. “Crossroads” is a truly excellent song that I wholeheartedly believe accomplishes Iddon’s goal for the music he creates for The Vespertine Kind.
