Tyler Jae Smith - Creak


Tyler Jae Smith is a singer-songwriter. Smith’s sound is a mixture of acoustic pop with some clear folk and punk influences that show up loud and clear in his music. A cat lover, Smith even has a song that mentions his cat. Today we take a dive into Tyler Jae Smith’s song, “Creak”, from his EP Tunnels.

“Creak” comes in at three minutes and twenty seconds. A heavily folk-inspired track, Smith’s lyrics have a great deal of soul as he traverses through a relatable subject utilizing imagery in an impressive way. Smith’s vocal performance is very solid and emotive and through his singing style you can hear some pop-punk influences, making this track one with a sound that comes from a variety of places. Overall, “Creak” is a pretty straightforward song on the surface but the deeper you dig, the more you can find as you peel back the layers of Tyler Jae Smith’s performance.

Through “Creak”, we get a good taste of the type of music Tyler Jae Smith makes; much of his music has very folksy roots to it but he mixes in plenty of pop sensibility in both his performing style and the architecture he utilizes to structure his songs.
