wingspeak - college st.
wingspeak is a Toronto-based Pop Rock act and is also the artist name of Filipino singer/songwriter Bianca. The name wingspeak is inspired by a line from the song “The Whole of the Moon” by The Waterboys, a song that also inspired Bianca to start sharing her music with the world. Today we are excited to share our thoughts on wingspeak’s debut EP, college st.!
college st. opens with “Center Stage”, a masterfully melodic piece that sets the table for the rest of the EP brilliantly. Throughout this song, wingspeak expresses doubts about being in the limelight, though by the end of the track she resolves to chase her dreams anyway. “Walk On Water” follows and it probably has my favorite instrumental from the EP; the percussion and guitar are both highlights in this one for sure. This is another song with a genuine, personal touch that I have a great deal of appreciation for. Up next is “Unexpected Song” which is the shortest song from EP (by only a few seconds) and yet again we are treated to a textured and melodic experience from wingspeak. This song is really solid and has some real personality.
The fourth track from college st. is “Into The Void” which is an attention-grabber from its intro. In terms of message, melody and production, this song is an absolute powerhouse - it would be my personal choice for a single release to promote the EP. Closing out college st. is “Between Us” and it really has that final song kind of feeling to it. Indeed, it is the perfect finisher for this EP as it highlights the personal touch to the lyrics and overall brillaint personality that wingspeak shows throughout the EP.
You would never have known that college st. is a debut EP from listening to these songs. This EP is brimming with personality and melody and has a strong Pop finish that feels ready for radio and high level streaming. Honestly, wingspeak has left me quite impressed and though this EP only just released, I find myself yearning for more music from this very talented artist.
