AcidxRain

AcidxRain is a rock band from Portugal who are new to the scene but are already shaking things up. The band incorporates elements of both classic rock and alternative rock to fuel their distinctive style. On July 29th, 2020 this electrifying band released their first EP and today we take a dive into the three tracks that make up that EP.

“Hollow Fever” opens the EP. The track opens with a bass riff and progresses into an electric guitar matching the bass riff; this combined riff makes the song bounce and groove along with a lot of energy. With a stellar vocal performance as well, this track absolutely shines and is an exceptional choice to lead off the EP. From top to bottom, this track is a wonderful homage to some of the heavier hits from the 70’s and it also serves as a great introduction to AcidxRain’s style and energy.

The second song on the EP is “Burn”, which features a bit more of a modern approach compared to the other two songs on the EP. Featuring palm muted chords and a crunchy bass tone, this song is more reminiscent of modern alternative rock with a hint of punk rock mixed in, though it certainly holds true to the 70’s-infused sound I expect from AcidxRain as well. Vocally, I feel as though this song has the best vocal melody of the three tracks on the EP and shows off the singer’s energy and passion that he puts into his music. The guitar solo starting around the 2:08 mark does a wonderful job of tying the whole track together and it certainly rocks hard.

“Walk Away” closes off the EP and it features the most well-rounded approach of the three songs on the EP; the track ties all elements of AcidxRain’s style together and shows off a sound that is distinctly this band’s own. The vocalist takes a bit of an extra theatrical approach on this song and I thoroughly enjoyed how he sang “Walk Away” compared to the other tracks. All three tracks on the EP have guitar solos but I feel as though the one in “Walk Away” is the best of the three; the way that the guitar continues to accent the lead vocals at the end of the track coming out of the solo helps this song stand out and both the song and EP end triumphantly because of this excellent creative decision.

Ultimately, AcidxRain capture the raw energy and spirit of heavy rock from the 70’s on their new EP while adding a bit of contemporary alternative rock flair into their electrifying sound. This combination helps them stand out among other rock bands in the crowd and I cannot wait to hear more from these guys as they continue making new music.
