AFTR - Humboldt Swagger (Wanna Go Down)
AFTR (Alone For The Ride) is a producer with a lot of experience; he began his career as a DJ back in the 90’s and came to reinvent his style style under the name AFTR in recent years. “Humboldt Swagger (Wanna Go Down)” is AFTR’s debut single on his record label Wake Up! Music and features this Chicago Nuhouse musician’s signature techno style; although the song has been available for streaming since June 19th, the retail street date for “Humboldt Swagger” is June 29th.
“Humboldt Swagger (Wanna Go Down)” features a very catchy and easy to dance to beat. The percussion, bass and synths line up perfectly throughout the track making it easy to bob your head to during each listen. Although there are not a lot of lyrics throughout the song, the vocal melody (featuring vocalist Pepper Gomez) is very catchy and helps drive the song home as a true dance bop. The music video features a body positive/body equality message and directly from the YouTube video description: “This video created by ACRONYM features the Wake Up! Music Voluptuous Vixens breaking barriers and reminding us that that there is not one size defining beauty”. As a complete package, the song and video go very well together and are quite enjoyable.
AFTR mentions that he wanted to “show some love” for the Humboldt Park (Chicago) community in and as someone who went to Riot Fest in Humboldt Park several years ago, I can attest that he represents the spirit and energy of his community very well. AFTR definitely treated us to a great summer dancing track with “Humboldt Swagger” and luckily we will not have to wait long for more of his music to drop: on July 15th, he will be releasing a multi-track compilation on the Wake Up!
