Clara Zimm is a singer/songwriter based out of New York and LA. In addition to her music career Zimm also acts, making her a multi-talented professional. Zimm draws her musical inspiration from a number of sources and that has helped her create a varied and distinctive sound. Today we take a listen to Zimm’s song, “Down the Drain”, which was released earlier in 2020.
“Down the Drain” is a very catchy and heart-filled song with notable pop sensibilities. Zimm’s overall vocal melody is very catchy and harmonies throughout the track add a greatly appealing texture. Lyrically, the track seems to come from a personal place - as most of Zimm’s music does - and the track as a whole has a very melancholy feeling to it. The production on the track does an excellent job of making sure Zimm’s vocal performance is the highlight, with each beat feeling tailor-made to serve that capacity; even the piano in the outro serves to match the somber emotions presented throughout the song.
“Down the Drain” is an exceptional song, featuring a great personal touch in the lyrics - Zimm mentions writing “from a place of love and loss” - and does a great job of introducing her brilliant sound.
