Dannii Scott - Beleza

Dannii Scott is an electronic music producer currently based in Venice Beach, California. A versatile artist with a sound that traverses through genres such as lofi, downtempo, ambient, psychedelic, house and hip-hop, Dannii Scott provides a lot of sounds in one accessible package. Today we take a listen to Dannii Scott’s new EP, Beleza, which will be released on all platforms in April.

The first track from Beleza, “Embora Pra Mim”, embraces a classic lofi hi-hop vibe that continuously shows up throughout the EP. Featuring what I would call “mouth percussion” (a vocal sample somewhat akin to beatboxing), this first track has a lot of layers to it for the listener to enjoy; lyrically the track is engaging and instrumentally it really encapsulates an appealing sound. Up next is “Me Feeling You” and it combines more lofi elements with a driving bassline that is quite groovy. The vocals in this track feature a lot of interplay between the beat and it is a very easy song to jam with. These first two tracks already show some of the varied techniques that Dannii Scott is known for and present his skillset brilliantly.

“Rest Easy, Bae” has perhaps my favorite instrumental piece from Beleza, continuing the lofi vibes but also capturing a lot of melody that leaves a lasting impression. The lyrics in this track are a bit more simple than most of the other tracks from the EP but I feel as though that just makes this song easier to enjoy - and more importantly relate with. “For the Kids” comes off as an absolute bop and has an upbeat approach that is extremely endearing. Of all the songs on Beleza, the one I have revisited the most is “For the Kids” as it is both genuine and upbeat. “Te Amo, Menina” is another track with a lot of layers to it that puts Dannii Scott’s producing skills in the limelight, coming off as an art piece as much as a song. These middle three songs represent a wide range of sounds and put Dannii Scott’s skill on display across a wide range of sonic vibrancies.

“Cold, Cold World” is probably my favorite overall track from Beleza and it really is a complete package of a song. With a vibe that really matches the song title, “Cold, Cold World” has this air of doubt and struggle that I found extremely easy to relate to; the song is delivered in a way that puts all of the hallmarks of a great Dannii Scott song on display with, to me, something even more than we have heard before. “You Doing Alright” concludes the EP and I feel as though it is the perfect way to end things off. From front to back, the track features many of the elements heard throughout Beleza and if you listen to it last, it really ties everything together.

Featuring elements of lofi, classic hip-hop and even some Trap vibes, Dannii Scott’s unique sound is on full blast in Beleza and it is definitely a special EP. You can find music from Dannii Scott on Spotify, YouTube and SoundCloud. Keep an ear out for both Dannii Scott’s upcoming Beleza as well as an upcoming album entitled “Saudade”, which is a Portuguese word for extreme emotional longing/nostalgia. For now, we have Beleza embedded below via SoundCloud and keep an eye out for it to officially drop in April!
