Jay Stott - Wreckage of Now
Jay Stott is a musician based in Colorado with a Southern Rock/Country sound who has worked many different jobs throughout his life. Stott is currently a high school English teacher by day, often jotting down song ideas in between classes. “Wreckage of Now” is the title track from Stott’s latest album Wreckage of Now and it serves as both a great album opener and teaser to Stott’s sound.
“Wreckage of Now” opens up with a bouncy Southern Rock sound, expertly channeling the good ol’ days of rock & roll while sharply setting the song’s tone. Throughout the track, those Southern Rock overtones shine, culminating in a tasteful guitar solo starting at the 2:20 mark. Stott’s vocals match the flavor presented by the instruments very well while Stott’s expertly crafted lyrics take us through the contrast between people struggling with their past against his own experiences of dealing with the titular “wreckage of now”.
”Wreckage of Now” is an excellent introduction to Jay Stott’s Southern and Country rock style. The track does a great job of displaying Stott’s ability to write tongue-in-cheek lyrics and his expert songwriting capabilities.
