John McDonough - Planes Fly Too Low

John McDonough is a singer/songwriter based out of Austin, Texas. With decades of experience, McDonough has plenty of experience in the Austin music scene and nine years ago he even retired from his job as a psychotherapist to pursue music full time. We have previously covered McDonough’s track, “Nowhere Else To Run” and today we take a listen to “Planes Fly Too Low”, McDonough’s latest single.

A splendid acoustic song, “Planes Fly Too Low” is a song with a strong meaning and seems to hold personal significance to John McDonough. McDonough’s work with the acoustic guitar here is something special, utilizing palm muted chords during the verses that allow a build up into the powerful chorus, where the guitar work matches the strength in his voice as McDonough repeats “sometimes the planes they fly too low”. During the bridge, we get a feel for the song’s overall meaning; here, the track serves as a call to “stand up and be who we are”, a true call to be yourself.

Truly a talented artist, John McDonough really hits the sweet spot with “Planes Fly Too Low”. Both of the tracks we have listened to from McDonough have been special and you can bet that next we cover him, it will be more of the same. You can keep up with John McDonough through his website or his Instagram. Be sure to check out “Planes Fly Too Low”, which we have embedded below!
